Collaborative Process

Our portrait process is very collaborative. We start with a free, no-obligation conversation about your goals, how you plan to use your portrait(s), the image you want to portray, your audience, and ideas for conveying your personality. We develop those ideas into a framework for your photoshoot.

Proven-Successful Processes

Before you arrive, you will receive helpful information to know how to prepare and what to expect. During your photoshoot in our Seattle studio or a location of your choosing, you will lead the experience, and I will give direction as we try a variety of expressions, angles, poses, lighting, backgrounds, and props. You will see every shot on a large monitor as I take it. Seeing your images in real-time provides incredible feedback to tweak your expression, body position, or lighting or move in a new direction.

Selecting Your Portraits

Business portrait sessions do not have a time limit; we finish when we capture the images you want. We will review your photos on a large monitor so you can select your favorites. I will provide technical advice – whether to point out a flaw that detracts from an image or the merits of a photo you may want to reconsider. We both have the same goal – for you to have photos you are proud of. After your session, I will retouch your portraits and send the digital files to you in about a week.

Portrait Retouching

Professional photo retouching is a crucial aspect of producing a portrait that highlights the best of you. It is a thoughtful and artistic process to make subtle adjustments to remove distractions and make selective enhancements. For example, remove stray hairs, eye bags, and lines that form under your eyes when you smile, even out skin tones and cover blemishes, slightly whiten a white shirt with a gray cast, adjust a drooping eyelid, and remove the reflection from eyeglasses. The retouching is subtle to ensure your photo looks like you.

Whether this is your first business portrait or your tenth, you can count on me to help you relax and enjoy the process of getting a professional business portrait that captures your unique personality.

“Charlie has a system that makes the whole process move very smoothly… the results were amazing photos. The hardest part was choosing just one picture, but his system even made that easier…[I] couldn’t be happier.”

Sonda Swanberg

“Warm and personable, Charlie Cotugno is an undeniably great portraitist. His insights and understanding of how phenomenal photography can positively affect one’s business place him in a category all by himself.”

Douglas Hill

“The experience was incredibly easy: he prepared me upfront with what to expect along with tips and tricks to look my best on camera, then coached me through the photo session so I felt relaxed and comfortable – which shows in my pictures!”
